It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

This weekly meme is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date.

I'm reading:

SERIES: Monster Island, Book #1
PUBLISHER: Running Press
PUBLICATION DATE: March 24, 2006
FORMAT: Paperback, 282 pages
GENRE: Horror
ISBN: 9781560258506
It's one month after a global disaster. The most "developed" nations of the world have fallen to the shambling zombie masses. Only a few pockets of humanity survive — in places rife with high-powered weaponry, such as Somalia. In New York City, the dead walk the streets, driven by an insatiable hunger for all things living. One amongst them is different; though he shares their appetites he has retained his human intelligence. Alone among the mindless zombies, Gary Fleck is an eyewitness to the end of the world — and perhaps the evil genius behind it all. From the other side of the planet, a small but heavily-armed group of schoolgirls-turned-soldiers has come in search of desperately needed medicine. Dekalb, a former United Nations weapons inspector, leads them as their local guide. Ayaan, a crack shot at the age of sixteen, will stop at nothing to complete her mission. They think they are prepared for anything. On Monster Island they will find that there is something worse even than being undead, as Gary learns the true price of survival.

SERIES: Across the Universe, Book #0.6
AUTHOR: Beth Revis
PUBLISHER: Self-published on Wattpad
PUBLICATION DATE: April 24, 2014
FORMAT: E-book
LENGTH: 36 pages
GENRE: Young Adult, Novella, Science Fiction/Dystopia

What events shaped Orion and turned him into the man he was at the start of Across the Universe? This story explores just that.

Orion started off as just another Elder, due to inherit the leadership of the spaceship Godspeed. When he starts to question the world around him, though, things quickly change. He meets a young woman that he may have feelings for. But if she gets in the way of his revenge, he can ignore his feelings for her...right? Or is love a choice after all?

SERIES: Across the Universe, Book #2.5
AUTHOR: Beth Revis
PUBLISHER: Self-published on Wattpad
PUBLICATION DATE: April 1, 2014
FORMAT: E-book
LENGTH: 48 pages
GENRE: Young Adult, Novella, Science Fiction/Dystopia

Selene is a "non-essential" crew member on a generational spaceship that classifies artists as insane. She and her fellow non-essential artists are given a rather unique assignment: create art they find beautiful, with no angle of making it essential for life on board the ship. As they hone their art skills, Selene teams up with a troubled sculptor and learns just how dangerous art--and being non-essential--can be. This novella takes place on the spaceship Godspeed and deals with characters seen in the Across the Universe series. You can read it without reading the novels, although it might be more fitting to read it after A Million Suns.

  2. I have the across the Universe series on my TBR and hope to get to them soon, I love generation ship stories. It's nice to see these ebooks that further develop that concept. And Monster Island certainly sounds interesting! I was never much interested in Miss Peregrine's but after seeing the movie trailer it has me curious...

    1. I FINALLy finished the Across the Universe series, and #2 and #3 were 5-star reads for me. I just loved them! Monster Island has been a bit slow, so I'm hoping that will pick up. I joined a September read-a-long for Miss Peregrine's which is hosted by Michelle at Castle Macabre (there's a button on my right sidebar). That audiobook has been on my iPod for years! I actually didn't realize that it was hitting the theatre until I joined the read-a-long! I am enjoying it so far.

  3. How are you enjoying "Miss Peregrine" on audio? I read it not too long ago and loved it, but I wasn't sure how it would work as an audiobook.
